The “Show” – Springdell Winter CSA Pickup #10

Hi everyone, Jess here with the 10th CSA pickup of the Springdell 2019 winter season! Though there was a slight flurry and ice on the windshield this morning, I think spring is finally overtaking winter!

Today we have some Daikon Radishes from Seekonk, MA, another shreddable and spiralizable goodie. Unlike it’s smaller more peppery sisters, it has a surprisingly mellow and sweeter flavor in comparison, so if you are radish averse, thinly slice one and give it a chance! These mellow nicely with cooking. Sliced raw Daikon dipped in peanut butter? I haven’t tried this yet but am intrigued! Whichever way you go, enjoy, theses puppies pack a nutritious punch for your immune system!
There was an option to pick up some beef tallow today. You can thaw it slightly slice it, and then re-freeze it into suet feeder sized chunks. The birds love this stuff! Tallow can be rendered to make soap, candles, or a pure paleo-friendly fat for cooking that has a hefty shelf life! Click here to learn more!
I’m trying a concoction from an old Food and Wine mag. Boiling up a brine of 1/4 cup each of mirin and rice vinegar, 10 peppercorns, 1 star anise, 1 tsp kosher salt and 1 1/2 teaspoons of sugar. I’ll let you know how that turns out!

That’s about it for today! See you during the week on Facebook, and back here for the “Tell” before the next pickup. Please feel free to check in anytime with questions, comments, or ideas of your own! Meanwhile, enjoy your week!
