- Alfalfa Sprouts from Jonathan’s Sprouts
- Springdell Farms Meats (I got Sweet Italian Sausage and Beef Kielbasa)
- Beets
- Potatoes
- Turnips
- Winter Squash (I got Carnival and Spaghetti Squash)
- Apple Cider
- Tully Farms Dairy (Lowfat Milk and Heavy Cream for me)
I’ll be taking Farmer Jamie’s advice about storing some of our veggies as we’re stepping out for a few days. Where I’ll be is a surprise but I look forward to sharing about the adventure when I return. Today, I jumped right into things by noshing on the more perishable of the veggies.
I slivered some onion, and scrubbed and sliced those yummy button mushrooms. A healthy sauté in Amish roll butter and these puppies were ready for a variety of dishes!
2 runny eggs on a bed of sautéed mushrooms, onions and wilted spinach were a perfect lunch, especially topped with those crunchy sprouts!
For a simple dinner, a bed of fresh spinach provided a solid foundation for this flavorful Springdell sirloin patty. Did I mention that these sprouts are great on just about everything? Our house sitters will make short work of the sprouts and leftovers, and for that I am grateful.
The rest of our goodies are being preserved until we return. The squashes are in our basement, the garlic and potatoes are in their respective bins. The kale and spinach are in the fridge. The turnips have been rinsed and placed in plastic bags in the fridge. I’m excited to try some new turnip ideas. Meanwhile if you’re looking for a yummy turnip recipe while I’m away, perhaps try the simple Turnip Souffle?
My oldest son decided to liven things up before our spaghetti squash went into cold storage. This squash is brain food for sure!
If you’re looking for a fresh Christmas tree, stop by the farm, there is a festive selection!
Don’t forget about Danny from Jordan Brothers, he’s at the farm stand every Saturday from 10-2 with super fresh and delicious seafood to accompany your farm goodies!
If you participate in the Winter CSA, be sure to return your clean milk bottles and caps from your dairy order, thank you!Well that’s about it for the “Show” for this evening. I have a plethora of new recipes to log when I return from this little hiatus. I hope you have a great week, and I’ll see you back here before the next crate comes along for the “Tell” of the Springdell Show and Tell! Meanwhile, if you have a great recipe that comes your way, feel free to share it so that it may be added to our growing database of successful CSA recipes. If you’re stumped on a veggie or other CSA item, meander over to the Veggiescope and click on your CSA item to get you started. Sweet and savory dreams, everyone!
Made a turnip souffle tonight per your suggestion. It was a hit — My husband had terrible memories of the turnips his mother made, but he liked this. Thanks!
So glad you liked it, Betsy, and your husband too! Thanks so much for checking in! 🙂
