And now, a quick word from Jess:
Hello, my Fellow Springdellians! I hope you are enjoying this wonderful weather as much as I am! This has been a busy week. Yesterday, after my 5 year-old’s preschool graduation, I spent the day at the Westford Community Gardens facilitating the garden shed construction.
It kind of forced me to pay attention to my own garden for a bit. Elizabeth from Fat Moon Farm came down to keep me company and corral the kids while the shed was being constructed. We munched on wild spinach and pigweed as we chatted and plucked away at my weeds. The kid’s even got in on the action.
Along with the “weeds”, we enjoyed some of the Springdell salad tomatoes and I had brought along a hunk of that delicious Londonderry Cheese from West River Creamery (available at the Springdell farm stand). Elizabeth had brought along some delicious home made herbed crackers, offering to share the recipe. We’ll be posting about that sometime this summer I’m sure!
The boys also ate chips. Sour cream and onion chips, to be exact. Aside from things they can pick and eat from the field, I am a little embarrassed to say this is one of their favorite snacks. When you look at the juxtaposition of the wild spinach to the chips, I suppose things cancel out. They ate both right up!
Tonight, I have a gig in Cambridge. Saturday is the Strawberry Festival, and it’s shaping up to be a great day! Needless to say, with so much going on, some of my meals have been quick!
Some of the honorable mentions this week:
Crispy purple potato chips.
Pasta tossed with the salad tomatoes, a little olive oil, sautéd mushroom, onion, feta, garlic and fresh herbs.
See you tomorrow or our first “Show” of the season!
